MATTHEWS, NORTH CAROLINA

Richard Dale Kelley

November 19, 1952 – March 23, 2026

Richard “Rick” Dale Kelley, a lifelong resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on March 23, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and connection. Born on November 19, 1952, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, Rick remained deeply rooted in the city he proudly called home for his entire life.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Jennie Rose and Robert Maxwell Kelley. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Vicki Guffey Kelley, who was the greatest joy of his life; his son, Joshua Ryan Kelley; and his brother, Robert Kelley Jr. (Peggy). He also leaves behind a large extended family, including sisters- and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews, to whom he was a devoted and cherished uncle.

A true entrepreneur at heart, Rick built a career in sales and marketing , helping both local and larger companies bring their brands to life. Whether it was online, on hats, on cups, or beyond, Rick took pride in his work and found fulfillment in helping others succeed. His creativity and dedication left a lasting impression on those he worked with and for.

Rick’s impact extended far beyond his professional life. He spent 14 years coaching YMCA basketball, mentoring and encouraging young athletes both on and off the court. He also gave his time as a Big Brother to the Thompson Children’s Home, offering guidance, support, and kindness to those who needed it most. A longtime member of a men’s softball team, Rick loved the camaraderie and competition the game brought into his life.

Rick was also an avid sports fan and a loyal supporter of the Dallas Cowboys. His love for music began at an early age, singing in the church choir as a child at St. John’s Baptist Church, an experience that stayed with him throughout his life and reflected his joyful, expressive spirit.

Rick had a gift that went far beyond business—he had an unmistakable ability to light up any room he entered. With his outgoing spirit, quick wit, and natural humor, he made people feel seen, comfortable, and joyful. His laughter was contagious, and his presence brought warmth to every gathering.

He was also a devoted dog lover and a proud supporter of the Humane Society of Charlotte, reflecting his deep compassion for animals and his generous spirit.

Rick’s life will be remembered not only for what he accomplished, but for how he made people feel—welcomed, entertained, and cared for. His spirit, humor, and kindness will live on in the many lives he touched.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to honor Rick by sharing a laugh, supporting a small business, or spending time with a beloved pet—just as he would have wanted.
