Randall Gibson Ranson (Randy), age 61, of Cornelius, NC departed this life on September 21, 2022, due to complications from Huntington’s Disease. Randy was born in Charlotte, NC to the late James Barry and Rachel Gibson Ranson. He was a graduate of West Mecklenburg High School, Class of 1979. After a brief stint in the snow ski industry, Randy enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard where he proudly served for four years. During his time in the military Randy received the Good Conduct Award and a Commandant’s Letter of Commendation for exemplary performance in his duties. Upon his honorable discharge from the military Randy worked in the marine insurance industry as well as watercraft sales/repair. Randy was also a SAMS accredited marine surveyor and a licensed commercial captain prior to his illness. He worked for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office prior to his medical retirement in October of 2015. Randy enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests throughout his life and particularly enjoyed fishing, golf, hunting, camping, riding motorcycles, Jimmy Buffett concerts, spending time with family and friends, especially his “Westside brothers.” Randy took extraordinary pride in his family, especially his sons.
In addition to his parents, Randy was pre-deceased by his father-in-law, Walter Ronald Leigh. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 35 years, Angela Leigh Ranson; his sons, Jacob Thomas Ranson and Mack Gibson Ranson; siblings, Terri Helton (Rick), Jim Ranson (Nina), Brian Ranson (Pam), Mother-in-law, Helen T. Leigh, brother-in-law Wally Leigh (Nancy), sister-in-law Susan Andrews (Chris) and a host of adoring nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The family would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte for their assistance with Randy’s care the past few months. The Cremation Society of Charlotte is serving the Ranson family. A private celebration of life will be held later.
