Kathleen Shope Obituary

Dallas, North Carolina

March 25, 1948 - February 07, 2024

SHOPE, KATHLEEN A., 75, of Dallas, North Carolina, died Wednesday February 7th, 2024, peacefully at home.

She was the daughter of the late Michael and Virginia Monteforte. She was the loving sister of her brothers Michael, Vincent, and Patrick Monteforte. Besides her brothers, she was the loving mother of her son Michael Shope and his wife Susan, her daughter Deanna Carithers and her husband Kevin, and her son Christopher Shope. She was the beloved grandmother of ten grandchildren, Heather Young, Spencer Shope, Zachary Shope, Braden Revis, Mia Shope, River Shope, Nathan Carithers, Callie Carithers, Jacob Massengill and Jeremiah Massengill. She was the beloved great-grandmother of Charlie Young, and Olivia Young.

Kathy had a heart for God and love for people. She served as a missionary aboard the former Mercy Ship Anastasia serving the community of Sierra Leone, Africa. While abroad she cared for orphans and children with severe birth defects waiting for surgery. Kathy loved working with children comforting them and loving them at a time when they were frightened of the surgery to come.

In her later years Kathy was involved in other ministries within her church, Real Life Church. She served on the Stephen’s ministry team and led a small group. Kathy’s tribe is what her small group was known as. A group of women that were her students, friends and so much more. Kathy had a passion for God’s word, digging in and teaching her “tribe” about the word of God gave her purpose and direction for many years.

Kathy’s greatest accomplishment was being a prayer warrior. If you were in Kathy’s home, you would see her prayer wall. She spent many hours praying for family, friends, missionaries, churches, strangers, and children. Through the last season of her life, she would pray for the doctors, nurses, and care givers that provided her care. Kathy knew that God was one word away and that she could intercede for those in need.

Above all the beautiful accomplishments in her life, Kathy loved her family. Her family was her pride and joy. She cherished being a sister, an auntie, grandmother, and most of all a mother. Her children were blessed to call her mom.

Kathleen leaves a legacy. Her love, beautiful heart, and love of Jesus impacted the lives of all she came in contact with. She was generous and had the ability to make everyone feel loved and a part of her family. Her smile and gentle heart always made people feel like they were the most important person in the world.  She will be missed dearly.
