George Loesch Hege

George Hege, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, on the evening of June 2, 2026. Surrounded by the love of his family and sustained by his deep faith, George was called home to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 77.

Born on January 27, 1949, George was raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where his family was deeply rooted in the community and the Moravian Church. From an early age, he embraced life with remarkable enthusiasm—participating in Scouting, playing in as many as five bands simultaneously, and cultivating a lifelong passion for automobiles, travel, and preserving cherished memories. His devotion to the Moravian Church remained a defining thread throughout his life. For more than fifty years, he had the privilege of playing in the church band at the Easter Sunrise Service, a tradition he treasured and faithfully upheld.

George graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and attended Wingate University before transferring to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a degree in business. During his college years, he developed a deep and abiding love for the North Carolina coast, spending formative time at Lake Waccamaw and Bald Head Island, where he formed friendships that endured throughout his lifetime.

He built a distinguished career in the Charlotte business community, first earning a reputation as one of the region’s premier microfilm experts before transitioning into sales in the water purification industry. In every professional endeavor, George was known for his honesty, integrity, and unwavering commitment to his word—qualities that defined him not only in business but in every aspect of his life.

George was a devoted member of Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, which became a true second family to him. He faithfully served as a church officer and was an active participant in The Mighty Acts Sunday School Class, where he formed many meaningful friendships and encouraged others through his quiet faith and steadfast example.

He served twice as President of the Carolinas Austin-Healey Club and was a longtime member of the organization, where he enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm for classic cars with fellow enthusiasts. The club was a community that spoke directly to his appreciation for craftsmanship, history, and the enduring bonds formed through shared passions.

Above all, George’s faith was his guiding light. He lived by the conviction that family and friends were God’s greatest earthly blessings. Of all the joys in his life, none brought him greater happiness than the privilege of watching his daughter, Carley, grow and flourish.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his daughter, Carley; his brother, Ken Hege, and sister-in-law, Pat Hege; his sister-in-law, Penny Hege; his stepchildren, Evan Berry (Hunter) and Anthony Nolan (Jessica); and his grandchildren, Richard and Hazel Nolan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Annie Hege, and his brother, Keith Hege.

George will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews, his Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church family, and the countless friends—old and new—whose lives were enriched by knowing him. To all who crossed his path, he was a man of uncommon kindness, steadfast faith, and genuine character. His life was a testament to the values he cherished, and his legacy will endure in the hearts of those who loved him.

A Celebration of Life honoring George will be held on June 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, 9401 S. Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28273. Family and friends are invited to gather as they celebrate his life, faith, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew and loved him.
