Garland Helmuth Russell, 66, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021.

The Russell Family have entrusted arrangements to Cremation Society of Charlotte.

Garland, better known as Russ, was born on January 23, 1955 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Marian Werner Purcell and James Russell. Russ graduated from Conrad High School, Wilmington, DE in 1973. He received his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University and his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Harvard. Russ worked in Boston, MA for several years. He enjoyed traveling around the world. He actually lived in Israel for over a year when he was in his 30’s. He had been to every continent except Antarctica. He especially loved the beach and he lived in Fort Lauderdale for a few years after leaving Boston. In addition to his travels, Russ loved animals. He trained several service dogs to help children with disabilities. Russ recently moved to South Carolina to be closer to his brother Jim and his family.

Russ is survived by his sister Linda Jones of Elkton, MD and her son Stan Sheldon of Salisbury, MD, his brother Jim, sister-in-law Colleen, his nieces BethAnn Russell and Laura Stricker, great niece Isabella Stricker, great nephews Ryan Stricker, Tanner and Colby Honaker, along with many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.  

In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Jack and Marian Werner, his paternal grandparents John Garland and Mary Russell, his niece Kim Honaker, and several Aunts and Uncles.
