Donald Eugene Purviance

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

Donald Eugene Purviance, age 87, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away on February 5, 2026. He was born on October 14, 1938.

Don grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and attended Florida Southern College. He proudly served four years in the United States Air Force, an experience that shaped his sense of discipline and pride in service. Following his military service, Don built a long career in the savings and loan and banking industries, retiring in 2004. Don embraced life with enthusiasm and warmth. He loved playing tennis and pickleball, cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, and sharing his impressive trivia knowledge. A true life of the party, he never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to connect with people. He especially enjoyed the friendships and camaraderie of his neighbors in Sun City, particularly those in the Rolling Hills pod, who brought him great joy in his later years. Don was preceded in death by his mother, Marvene Founds Purviance, and his father, Harold Ford Purviance. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Carol; his son, Scott, and daughter-in-law, Courtney; his grandchildren, Jack and Kate; and his daughter, Susie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Fragile X Foundation, Phillips Academy Charlotte, or an organization of your choice.
Don will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, neighbors, and all whose lives were brighter for having known him. The family is planning a celebration of life event this spring.
