CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA
August 31, 1954 - January 3, 2026
Dennis James Moretz passed away peacefully on January 3 at 9:36 a.m. and was welcomed into God's eternal peace.
He is survived by his beloved wife Cheryl; his children Jason, Daniel, Anna, and Stefanie; his grandson Jesse Ray; his brother Ernie; his sisters Phyllis and Lois; and many cherished family members and friends.
Dennis was a highly respected builder in Boone, North Carolina, where he took great pride in his work and was featured in two issues of Carolina Architecture & Design Magazine. He also served as President of the Avery Arts Council during the 1990s. Known for his integrity and generosity, Dennis lived by the motto, “Give people a hand up, not a handout.”
Deeply devoted to family, Dennis was always present and willing to help in any way. He lovingly raised children as his own, ensuring every child felt valued and included. He had a special love for animals, particularly deer, and bottle-fed and raised nine orphaned fawns. Dennis enjoyed the Carolina mountains, hunting, fishing, golf, cooking for others, and hosting large family gatherings.
In later years, Dennis and his beloved wife Cheryl shared a love of travel, visiting 32 countries together. His warmth, kindness, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church in the spring of the year with details coming later.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the National Alzheimer Association in his memory.
The Moretz Family have entrusted arrangements to Cremation Society of Charlotte.
