Constance Tutt

Constance Loretta Tutt, lovingly known as Connie, was born on February 11, 1941, to Arthur Loveliest Tutt and Mamie Guerrant Tutt.

Connie began her education at Maiden Rosenwald Elementary School in Maiden, North Carolina, and later attended Central High School in Newton, North Carolina. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina, and continued her studies at Columbia University—reflecting a lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth.

For many years, Connie made her home in New York, where she lived near her beloved sister Celestine Bennett. Eventually, she returned to Charlotte, North Carolina, where she served her community with dedication as both a librarian and a social worker.

A woman of quiet strength and deep reflection, Connie found joy and expression through the arts. She was a gifted painter who used her creativity to communicate what words sometimes could not. She also had a love for music, playing both the flute and the organ. Connie cherished solitude, but even more so, she treasured the time spent with her sisters Cecelia Newkirk, Carolyn Shakur, and Celestine Bennett, whose bonds remained a constant source of love and connection throughout her life.

Connie passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, April 4, 2026. She spent Easter Sunday reunited in heaven with her beloved sisters, Cecelia and Celestine, and her parents, Mama Tutt and Daddy Tutt.

She leaves behind a legacy of love in the hearts of her sister Carolyn Shakur; nieces Etta Holmes, Jerri Barber, Sharon Shakur, Tara Shakur, Ayele Shakur-Janey; nephew David Newkirk; and a host of grand nieces and grand nephews, who will forever cherish her memory.

A graveside service will be held to honor Constance at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens, 11201 Beatties Ford Rd. Huntersville, NC 28078.
