Margaret Estelle King Simmons, 93, of Charlotte passed away Monday, December 16th, 2019 at Dickson-Levine Hospice Center-Aldersgate in Charlotte. Margaret was born the daughter of Rufus Bennie and Myrtle Ethel Reynolds King on November 26, 1926 in Wilmington, NC.
She was a dedicated homemaker, however at various times she had worked at Belks, J M Fields, and Caro-Knits. She loved her family and family gatherings.
Margaret lived in Wilmington until the death of her husband, Harry Glenworth Simmons, after which she moved to Charlotte, NC to live with her daughter. She was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte. She sang in the Senior Choir for several years and especially enjoyed traveling with her church friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Patricia “Pat” Dale Hoy. Also, preceding her in death were brothers James Rufus King Sr., John “JT” Thomas King and William King; sisters Ida Magnolia Melvin and Flora Marie Brock; grandchildren Edwin Fitzgerald and Jeremy Glen Hoy.
She is survived by a brother Robert Bedford King (Flossie); daughter Gail Martina Simmons; granddaughter Amber Leigh Harrington (Thad); great grandchildren Hayley Victoria Harrington, Katelyn Marie Jones (Sam), and Brendan Wright Harrington; great-great granddaughter, Maggie Elaine Jones. She was very proud of her five-generation status.
Remembrance services will be Friday, December 20th at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 7200 East WT Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC. Officiating will be Rev. John Harrill and Rev. Arnold Kessler. Visitation will be held at 12pm followed by memorial service at 1pm. Graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington, NC will be held at a later date.
